NORFOLK--School security officers found a gun in a locker at a Norfolk middle school Monday.

School officials say they conducted a random search around 11 a.m. after two students were acting suspiciously near the locker area at Lafayette-Winona Middle School.

Officials say the gun was confiscated and the students were transported to the police department.

The students face 'appropriate school disciplinary action' as well as criminal charges.

Lafayette-Winona Middle School Principal Margie Stallings notified parents of the incident via recorded phone message.

Parents were asked to take the opportunity to talk with their children about the incident and discuss students' responsibility for contributing to a safe and secure learning environment.
