UPDATE 2/14: Amanda Rodriguez tells13News Now the boy is no longer allowed to ride the school bus. Rodriguez says she was informed by the school resource officer around noon on Friday.

VIRGINIA BEACH Police say they're investigating an alleged assault that a student claims took place on a school bus earlier this week.

Amanda Rodriguez said her 11-year-old daughter came home crying Tuesday afternoon. Her daughter told her a boy sat down next to her on the school bus, exposed himself and then touched her inappropriately.

Rodriguez said she met with the principal of Windsor Oaks Elementary School on Wednesday and was told the school would remove the boy from the class he shares with her daughter. Rodriguez said the boy would be barred from riding the bus for the rest of the week, but he could ride after that.

Rodriguez said she hopes the school reconsiders its decision to allow the boy and her daughter to share the bus.

'I've heard too many times that boy has a right to ride that bus to school, but apparently my daughter doesn't have a right to be safe,' Rodriguez said.

A spokeswoman for Va. Beach Public Schools said the division is looking into the matter, but she could not comment further, citing privacy laws.
