ELIZABETH CITY, NC- A couple is accused of shoplifting more than $2,400 worth of jewelry and then trying to turn the items back in for a refund.

Julie Ann Souers and Calvin Shifflett Jr. broke into an unmanned jewelry cabinet at Walmart early February 7 and took 66 pieces of jewelry, Elizabeth City Police said.

On Valentine's Day, Souers and Shifflett tried to return items taken from a Williamsburg Walmart, they said.

The couple was arrested inside the store with items they'd tried to shoplift. They're charged with felony larceny, felony possession of stolen goods and trespassing.

According to Captain John D. Young, the pair had been banned from all Walmart stores for a prior larceny case in Virginia
