RICHMOND--The State Senate passed a bill today that would allow Virginia Beach to raise cash to help pay for an arena.

However Delegate Ron Vilanueva's HB 2320 was changed in one way.

The Senate stripped the portion of the bill allowing a special income tax on any pro sports team that might take up occupancy there. That tax essentially on players was one way the city was hoping to pull the project off.

The Senate bill does allow for raising money from a special sales tax at an arena on things like beer and sodas.

The modified bill now must go back to the House of Delegates..

The house is expected to take up the bill next week, the last week of the scheduled session.
If it passes, it would then go to the desk of Governor Bob McDonnell for possible signature.
