SUFFOLK-- Beginning Tuesday, January 21, the Suffolk Visitor Center and Suffolk Treasurer's Office will offer E-ZPass transponders for sale.
E-ZPass will offer the lowest toll rate when tolling begins February 1 for both Midtown and Downtown tunnels.
Drivers pay $35 and the E-ZPass can be used right away with $15 toll credit. The additional $20 is available for tolls when the transponder is registered online at www.EZPassVA.com or via telephone at 877-762-7824 or 800-828-1120.
Drivers can get prepaid E-ZPass transponders at select outlets for use on all toll roads in Virginia and 14 other states. The City of Suffolk joins other E-ZPass On-the-Go retailers in the Hampton Roads area such as Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Pit Stop Convenience Stores, Creekmore Hardware and Norfolk Visitors Center.
E-ZPass is an electronic toll collection system that uses a transponder that automatically deducts tolls from an account that can be connected to the user's bank or credit card accounts. As they travel through the toll facilities, tolls are automatically deducted from their pre-paid E-ZPass account.
The Suffolk Visitor's Center is located at 524 North Main Street.
The Suffolk Treasurer has offices in the Suffolk Municipal Building, 441 Market Street, and the North Suffolk Library, 2000 Bennetts Creek Park Road.
