VIRGINIA BEACH -- Testimony began Tuesday in the trial of a man accused of driving drunk and crashing his car, killing his friend.

The jury was seated late Monday to hear evidence in the trial of Cameron Crockett and the prosecution and defense gave opening statements, said Commonwealth's Attorney spokeswoman Macie Pridgen.

Pridgen said the courtroom was filled with family and friends of John Korte Jr. and Crockett.

Crockett was arrested for the December 28, 2008 crash that killed his friend Korte, who was a volleyball standout at Cox High School.

Crockett is charged with aggravated involuntary manslaughter, DUI, refusal, illegal possession of alcohol and driving without a license.

By early Tuesday afternoon, the prosecution had called several witnesses, including one of the officers who responded to the crash and a woman who lived near the scene, Pridgen stated.

The trial is expected to take several days, Pridgen noted.
