JAMES CITY CO. Black bears have apparently been spotted roaming some neighborhoods in James City County.

Resident Jack Blais lives in the Lake Powell Forest subdivision. He recently heard a noise coming from his deck late at night and discovered a black bear about three feet away. He says it was not a little one either.

'I'm over six feet and was looking kind of up at his eyes.'

A biologist with the Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries says that over the past few days there have been several reports of bear sighting in the Lake Powell Forest neighborhood and a couple of others along Jamestown Road.

The biologist tells 13News it's not unusual to see a bear in developed areas this time of year and they're mostly two-year old males following rivers and streams in order to establish a territory.

Blais says his bear was going after seeds in the bird feeder on a shed.

'He was standing there shaking that storage shed and I screamed at him to get out of there. He looked at me and screamed at him again and he ran over here and sat up here, and when I opened the door to go forward, he slid down.'

Game and Inland Fisheries reportedly found a strand of bear fur from the Blais' deck railing.
