RICHMOND(AP) -- Dominion Virginia Power has lifted its alert at its North Anna Power Station in Louisa County.

The low-level alert was issued Tuesday following a 5.8-magnitude earthquake with an epicenter within 20 miles of the power station.

North Anna's reactors were automatically taken off line by safety systems after the earthquake shook the plant, which supplies power to 445,000 Dominion customers.

The alert was lifted Wednesday after the utility started a reactor cooling pump for each of the two nuclear reactors

The earthquake also was felt at the company's Surry Power Station but not as strongly there. Both units at that nuclear power plant continue to operate safely, officials stressed.
