NORFOLK -- Barbie has been around for decades, staying relevant because she changes with the times.
There's an online effort to get Mattel, the toy company, to create a bald Barbie for children battling cancer who lose some or all of their hair.
The Facebook community for a Cancer Barbie was started in late December and has nearly 44,000 'likes.'
Friends Rebecca Sypin and Jane Bingham, who live on opposite coasts but have both been affected by the disease, hatched the idea for the social media movement because Barbie is an influential children's toy.
A Mattel spokesperson wrote to 13News,'We can't confirm who started the campaign. There are no plans in the works right now to produce a bald Barbie.'
