HAMPTON-Major improvements are planned for North King Street in Hampton, but getting them done may require a lot of patience.

Work has started on making the corridor from Old Fox Hill Road to Little Back River Road a four-lane divided street with a raised median. Other improvements will be curbs and gutters, sidewalks, bike paths and lighting.

Officials say this stretch of King Street, which leads to Langley Air Force Base, is long overdue for facelift.

They say construction should take about a year and they'll do their best to not inconvenience people in the area, but they expect some traffic disruption during curb and gutter construction.
