NORFOLK- 13News is teaming up with The Norfolk Tides to strike out bullying in schools.

Right before this Sunday's game, 13News Daybreak anchors Vanessa Coria and I will lead students onto the field. These are students who have stood up to bullying in their schools all year long by getting involved in the Rachel's Challenge program.

Rachel's Challenge teaches students skills on how to spread kindness, respect and compassion through their schools and discourage negative behavior like violence.

'We can make a difference by being kind to other people and telling them to stop bullying,' said Larkspur Middle School student Brittany Rupert.

Tides catcher Chris Robinson is proud his team is pitching in to support Rachel's Challenge students.

'I can't really stress it enough that it (bullying) needs to be addressed and needs to be addressed at the youngest ages too, Robinson said. 'If it's not addressed it kind of goes unknown. You hear some of the tragic stories that come out of it and it's heartbreaking.'

The game begins at 1:05 p.m. on May 5 so look for 13News and Rachel's Challenge students from several schools to take the field right before that.
