HAMPTON-Hampton Police say an attacking dog was shot by an officer.
It happened around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of W. Pembroke Avenue.
Authorities say officers were investigating a dispute between roommates when the 80-pound boxer escaped through a back door and ran towards them.
The officers retreated and the canine continued to charge biting one officer on the ankle, said spokeswoman Cpl. Mary Shackelford.
The officer shot the dog in the neck, she added. The dog is expected to recover.
Charges are pending against the dog's owner; criminal and administrative investigations are being conducted which is standard practice in all police-involved shootings.
