VIRGINIA BEACH-A Virginia Beach girl received her first dose of the rabies vaccine after she was attacked by a rabid cat Tuesday, according to Larry Hill with the State Health Department.

She and a woman were exposed after the cat jumped on the girl and the woman pulled it off.

It happened on Pipers Crescent Road in the Friendship Village area.

Both were exposed and are now receiving treatment, Hill said.

The cat was euthanized and the test for rabies came back positive Thursday.

Hill said this is the tenth rabid animal found in Virginia Beach this year.

Health officials say if you have been exposed to a rabid animal immediately go to your doctor or an emergency room.
