NORFOLK-- The city council voted Tuesday to allow residents to keep chickens on their property.

The ordinance would allow the keeping of chickens on at least 10,000 square feet of land.

Applicants seeking a permit to keep chickens within the city would pay an application fee established by the Department of Health.

In addition to other restrictions, the ordinance also establishes a limit of 4 hens and no roosters on any lot.

The council's vote was 6 to 2. The two dissenting votes were Councilman Paul Riddick and Mayor Paul Fraim.
