UPDATE 2/13: Police have charged 22-year-old Justin Wayne Squires and 32-year-old Steven Girard Farland Jr., both of Virginia Beach, with robbery, felonious assault, conspiracy to commit felony and use of firearm in commission of felony.

Both are being held in the Virginia Beach Jail on no bond.


VIRGINIA BEACH -- Police say a man who stopped to remove orange barrels across the road in Virginia Beach Tuesday was mugged and beaten.

Police confirm the victim stopped near the intersection of Princess Anne and Kempsville roads to move barrels that were placed in the roadway around 2 a.m. when he was approached by two men.

The victim was beaten and and wallet and phone were taken by the two suspects, police said.

The victim's mother posted on Facebook that her son has a broken jaw, a gash that required stitches, some broken teeth, lots of other scrapes, bruises and contusions.

Police believe this is an isolated incident.

Both suspects are described as white males between 20 and 30 years old, 5'10 to 6' tall and 160 to 200 pounds.

One suspect has brown hair, possibly facial hair and was dressed in a black or gray hooded sweatshirt.

The second suspects was possibly wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and could have a tattoo on one of his wrists.
