PORTSMOUTH -- Two people were rescued from a fishing boat east of False Cape State Park after the boat staring taking on water Saturday night.

The Coast Guard was alerted after crew members on the Lauren Dorothy called for help around 6:30 p.m. The 53-foot fishing boat was taking on wate rabout 40 miles of False Cape Sate Park.

Crews aboard an HC-130 Hercules aircraft and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Elizabeth City assisted in rescuing two people.

Shortly after 7 p.m., the two were then flown to Air Station Elizabeth City. The Red Cross is helping them, the Coast Guard said.

No one was injured.
