NEWPORT NEWS -- Police are looking for the man they say struck a jogger in Newport News last weekend.

According to spokesman Harold Eley, a 35-year-old Newport News woman was jogging near Riverside Drive and Museum Pkwy. around 9:30 a.m. when she noticed an unknown man 'slowly drive past her then suspiciously turn around and pass her again, this time staring at her.'

Eley says that after passing the woman the second time, the man made a U-turn and while maintaining eye contact accelerated his vehicle and veered into her path.

The woman was struck by the right front bumper and hood of the vehicle and was thrown into the air, Eley said.

The driver allegedly backed up and drove off.

The victim suffered scrapes to her right hip and knee area.

The man is described as a white male in his 40s or 50s with a full salt and pepper beard. The suspect was driving a tan or gold-colored Honda or Toyota sedan.
