YORK COUNTY -- A York County woman was knocked to the ground by her neighbor and suffered a laceration to the back of her head over a barking dog, authorities said.

According to Lt. Dennis Ivey of the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office, the woman approached 55-year-old Kathleen Lofton Horner to apologize for the barking dog when Horner allegedly assaulted her.

Ivey said the victim needed two staples to close the wound to her head. The victim also had bruising on her face, neck and arm, and she sustained an injury to her nose.

The incident occurred in the Creekside Landing subdivision on May 31.

Horner is charged with one felony count of malicious wounding and one misdemeanor count of assault.

She will appear in York-Poquoson District Court on June 16.
