CHESAPEAKE -- A Chesapeake driver was charged Wednesday after a passenger climbed out of the sunroof of her moving car on the Gilmerton Bridge, lost her balance, fell and suffered serious injuries.

Police charged 39-year-old Kimberly Coleman with DUI and driving on a suspended license.

According to police, Coleman was driving westbound over the bridge around 6:30 p.m. when the incident occurred.

Coleman tried unsuccessfully to pull the 49-year-old victim back into the vehicle, police said.

Police say they don't know how fast the vehicle was traveling when the woman fell, how long she was riding on top of the roof, or the reason she climbed through the sunroof.

The victim remains at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with serious injuries.
