VIRGINIA BEACH -- Two people were wounded when shots were fired in the parking lot of Atlantis Gentlemen's Club in Va. Beach early Tuesday.

Police responded to the club on Oceana Blvd. around 1:30 a.m. after several people were removed from the establishment for fighting.

They drove a short distance away and at least two of them returned to the club and fired at people standing at the door. They went back to their vehicle and sped off.

One person was taken to the hospital with a gunshot to his leg; the other drove himself to the hospital for treatment, according to police.

One of the victims works at Atlantis.

Rick Petersines' mother lives near the club and heard the shots. He says over the years, the establishment has had one problem after another.

'Ever since they had that place open, they've had problems with drug busts, shootings,' he said.

In 2007, two sailors were shot and killed at the same site which was then called Oceans' Cabaret. Atlantis is currently off-limits to military.

The investigation into Tuesday's shooting continues.
