CHESAPEAKE -- A 13-year-old boy was arraigned Thursday on a manslaughter charge in the death of a 12-year-old girl.
Carolyn Walker, whose nickname was Cee-Cee, will be laid to rest Tuesday; her family is planning a candlelight vigil Friday night at the place where she died.
Her mother, Lisa, said the boy was playing with a gun on January 10 in Owens Village when the gun went off.
The boy's mother visited the family the next day and apologized, according to Carlos Lopez, Cee-Cee's uncle. He says it was very emotional and that she said she didn't know where her son got the gun.
Lopez is trying to grasp never seeing his neice again.
'A child is gone, and one is going to have to pay for it in a different way - the memory of pulling that trigger and seeing her drop,' Lopez said.
As the investigation continues, the Walker family is making funeral arrangements. A service is set for 11:00 a.m. on January 17 at Metropolitan Funeral Service, 7246 Granby Street in Norfolk. The family says they need help to pay the expenses. If you would like to help, you can e-mail the family at CJL1521@gmail.com.
A memorial fund has been set up for the 6th grader. You can donate to any Wells Fargo Bank to the memorial fund for Carolyn Walker.
Meantime, the boy is due back in Chesapeake Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court late next month, said Commonwealth's Attorney Nancy Parr.
