USS NICHOLAS, AT SEA -- The Norfolk-based USS Nicholas recently made a historic drug bust off the coast of Columbia.

Navy officials say that on June 4, the crew seized 4,900 Pounds of cocaine. It was packaged in 112 bales.

The estimated street value of the drugs is more than $367 million.

It was through a coordinated effort with crews from Nicholas, the U.S. Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachment, the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Sherman, and the Colombian Navy. It's all part of Operation Martillo which is Spanish for 'hammer.'

Since the beginning of its deployment in January, USS Nicholas and the embarked Coast Guard members have seized more than 10,000 pounds of cocaine, with a total estimated street value of more than $759 million.
