VIRGINIA BEACH-- A local homeowner is stepping up her fight to keep 22 chickens in her backyard.
Tuesday, Tracy Okroy plans to show up at city council with her backyard chicken expert from Atlanta.
The City of Virginia Beach has ticketed Okroy for having chickens in her backyard. She is appealing and has a court date set for July 19th. Okroy argues her chickens are like pets. Homeowners are allowed to have companion animals.
'It's not if the laws get changed, it's when. I mean the movement is sweeping across the country. Backyard chickens encourage self sustainability and going green. My pet makes me breakfast.'
Andy Schneider does a radio talk show about the 'Backyard Chicken Movement' in Atlanta. He's coming to see Okroy Tuesday. He also plans to attend the council meeting.
