NEWPORT NEWS -- A teenager has been arrested for killing a Newport News man at a party Friday night.

Police say the 17-year-old suspect was arrested in the 6000 block of Brookwood Drive in Suffolk Monday and charged with murder, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and underage possession of a firearm.

According to police, the suspect and 19-year-old Donteous Trayvon McEachern were involved in an altercation, along with a female, in the 500 block of Clearbrook Road. At some point McEachern was shot in the chest and managed to leave the party, but collapsed outside.

McEachern was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

This is the third homicide in Newport News this year.
