CHESAPEAKE---A plan to widen I-64 on the Peninsula could move forward by the end of next week.

Regional planners are recommending that the Department of Transportation use state money to fund a six-lane expansion from Jefferson Avenue in Newport News to Humelsine Parkway in Williamsburg.

The $260 million project would use the current interstate shoulders as new lanes heading eastbound and westbound.

Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization Director Dwight Farmer will present the resolution at the June 20 meeting.
