UPDATE 1/23: The driver of the van, Arthur Tennyson Brown Jr., 44, of the 800 block of Terrace Drive in Newport News, has been charged with failure to yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle.

The owner of the van, Trina Lamore Brown, 44, has been charged with allowing the operation of an uninsured vehicle. Both were released on a summons and are scheduled to appear in traffic court on March 13.


NEWPORT NEWS-- A police officer was involved in an accident Tuesday night while responding to a robbery call.

According to police spokesperson, Lou Thurston, a K-9 officer's vehicle was T-boned by a van at Harpersville Road and Jefferson Avenue.

The officer and someone from the van were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.

The officer's K-9 was taken to a local veterinarian to be checked and was found to be fine.

Thurston said the robbery the officer was responding to happened around 7:37 p.m. at a Shell station in the 10,700 block of Jefferson Avenue.

A black male entered the store with a weapon and robbed it...

Police are looking for the suspect. He is 20-30yrs of age, mustache, medium build, black knitted hat, tan jacket, dark pants, and white tennis shoes.
