4/1 UPDATE: The Navy Times reports that there was no evidence found that shots had been fired nearNaval Base Kitsap in Washington State.

The base was placed in lockdown Monday as base police work with local law enforcement to investigate reports of shots fired on base, according to Navy officials.

Officials say the base went into lockdown around 9:45 a.m. Pacific Standard Time after several reports of loud bangs Monday. Navy Installations Command tweeted the news around 10:20 a.m., PST.

Naval Base Kitsap is the largest installation in Navy Region Northwest and is composed of installations in Bremerton, Bangor and Keyport.
