VIRGINIA BEACH -- Walter Lane Hubbard, who allegedly shot and killed pharmacist David Kilgore during an attempted robbery attempt in Virginia Beach Monday, told police he is an addict, according to an arrest warrant obtained by 13News Now.

According to the warrant, Hubbard stole a gun and car from his neighbor's home before driving to the Oceanfront. The warrant says around 11 a.m. Hubbard entered Beach Pharmacy and demanded Oxycodone. When they refused to give him the drugs, Hubbard shot and killed pharmacist David Kilgore, the report says.

Hubbard then continued on to Barr's Pharmacy, where according to the warrant, they 'gave him what he wanted.'

Pharmacy shooting leads to police chase in Virginia Beach

During a 10-mile police chase that then ensued, Hubbard shot at police at least 17 times, according to the warrant.

Police laid out spike strips, which flattened the tires of the stolen car Hubbard was driving, according to the report.

The chase ended at the intersection of Witchduck Road and Virginia Beach Boulevard after Hubbard collided with a pickup truck.

Joseph Chatfield saw the pursuit fly past him.

'They all came out with their guns and one of them had a taser and they tased him and they jumped on him and cuffed him and they had him in the car before you know it,' Chatfield said.

Hubbard was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for evaluation, officials said.

Hubbard made his first appearance in Virginia Beach General District Court Tuesday. Hubbard was granted a court appointed attorney and the judge denied bail. Hubbard's preliminary court appearance will be May 22.

He's charged with first degree murder, robbery, attempted robbery, and three counts of use of a firearm.
