NEWPORT NEWS -- Police are searching for two armed suspects who reportedly robbed a man at a Newport News bus stop Sunday evening.

According to police spokesman Lou Thurston, the incident happened around 8:30 p.m. at the bus stop at Warwick Boulevard and 73rd Street.

Two black males allegedly stole the victim's cash, iPhone and identification. They fled the scene in a dark-colored BMW, Thurston said.

As the police department works to fight street crime,Thurston says there are lessons for everyone to follow.

'Probably a big thing to remember like in this case, if somebody comes up to you with a gun, don't argue with them. Give them what they want and let them go on their way,' Thurston said.

Frequent riders say they're always on the lookout when taking the bus.

'Try to give as little conversation as possible. I would just say go, do what you gotta do, and get home,' bus rider Ashley Taylor said.

'Generally I think it's very safe, but it's always better to travel with a friend,' bus rider Larry Blusome said.
