NORFOLK -- Investigators are trying to figure out what caused the driver of an SUV to run from officers and plow into a minivan in Norfolk early Wednesday night.
Emergency crews responded to the call at the corner of 19th and Granby streets around 5:15 p.m., according to Norfolk police spokesperson Karen Parker-Chesson.
When officers arrived on scene, they found the SUV on its side.
Investigators say the male driver of the SUV failed to pull over during a routine traffic stop and instead sped off at a high rate of speed; eventually colliding with another vehicle.
The suspect then attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended by officers a short time later.
The passenger in the suspect vehicle was ejected and transported to nearby hospital in serious condition, Parker-Chesson said. The driver and passenger in the minivan suffered minor injuries.
Police have not released the name of the suspect. An investigation is still underway.
