NEWPORT NEWS -- A clerk was charged after he allegedly pointed a gun at two customers in a Newport News convenience store Tuesday.

Police say two people got into a verbal argument with the clerk inside the Shell gas station in the 4900 block of Jefferson Avenue.

The clerk, 21-year-old Randolph Williams III of Newport News, retrieved a semi-automatic handgun from his vehicle and pointed it at both of them, police said.

Williams was issued a summons for brandishing a firearm and possession of marijuana.

The firearm was seized and placed into property and evidence. He was released at the scene.
