Consumer Minute: Gas prices decline and Apple prepares to go bigger
There's good news at the gas pump. Prices are continuing to plunge. According to the Energy Department, the average price for a gallon of gas nationwide is $3.59. That's four cents less than a week ago. Here in Hampton Roads, the news is even better. The price of gas has fallen three cents since last week to an average price of $3.46 a gallon.
Netflix is celebrating some good news. The video streaming service says its profits more than doubled in the second quarter. The company says its original programming has helped to bring in 50 million subscribers worldwide.
Word is out that Apple is going bigger. The iPhone 6 will reportedly feature a larger screen. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple has ordered 70 to 90 million larger screens for the next phone, which is expected to debut later this year.
If you love your Crocs, you might not like this news. It seems the clunky plastic clogs are no longer a sensation. With demand for Crocs on the decline, the shoe maker is now planning to close 75 stores and lay off nearly 200 employees.
