NEWPORT NEWS A Chesapeake man found shot to death in a car at an apartment complex was a convicted killer, according to online records.

Officers discovered the body of David Duke Sims, 31, slumped over the steering wheel of a car parked at the Apex at Ashton Green Apartments early Sunday morning.

Sims, who lived in Chesapeake, was convicted of second degree murder following an armed robbery in Duval County Florida, according to the Florida Department of Corrections website.

Sims was released in December 2012.

Around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, neighbors at reported hearing multiple gunshots along Boulder Drive.

'I went outside to see what was happening and I saw a man running away,' said Jared Day.

No arrests have been made in Sims death, and police have not released the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
