Police: Two cars trying to merge into the same lane led to fatal crash on I-264

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- State police are investigating a crash that left one person dead and another person injured.

According to Virginia State Police, Ricardo A. Fray was driving a 2007 Dodge Caliber on I-264 East when he attempted to merge into the right lane at the same time as a white BMW. Fray swerved to avoid hitting the BMW and lost control of the Dodge, causing it to spin and run off the right side of the road, hitting a Jersey wall.

The front-seat passenger, 36-year-old Erica N. Fray, was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.

Fray suffered non-life threatening injuries. He was taken to Norfolk General Hospital for treatment.

Though the two vehicles never came into contact, State police would still like to speak with the driver of the BMW. They are asked to call Chesapeake State Police Dispatch at (757) 424-6800.
