Bid for High Rise Bridge project under budget

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- Plans to make your daily commute faster could cost the state less.

A bid to add two high-occupancy toll lanes to the four-lane bridge is about $200 million under budget.

VDOT Hampton Roads District Administrator Jim Utterback told our partners at The Virginian-Pilot that he's cautiously optimistic.

A joint-venture by Granite-Parsons-Corman said they could do the project for about $405 million. The budget is $600 million.
