Car and truck take down pole in Norfolk, woman arrested

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- A woman is under arrest after Norfolk Police say she fled the scene of a crash that led to big traffic delays for the morning commute.

Investigators say 29-year-old Rhianna Avila was driving a Ford pickup truck on Hampton Boulevard around 7:30 a.m. when she collided with another vehicle near West Little Creek Road. The two vehicles ended up hitting a light pole, which brought down power lines.

Avila allegedly fled the scene before police arrived. The other driver remained on scene and was treated for minor injuries.

Avila was later located at her residence in the 7400 block of Hughart Street, and was arrested for felony hit and run.

The intersection had to be closed for about six hours on Tuesday, to allow Dominion Virginia Power to replace the pole and repair the power lines. The road reopened around 1:15 p.m.
