Cracked windshield prompts emergency landing at Norfolk International Airport

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- An American Airlines regional jet bound for Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport made an emergency landing at Norfolk International Airport because of a cracked windshield.

The jet from Charlotte landed around 1:10 p.m. Monday after the inside layer of the windshield cracked.

Steve Sterling with Norfolk International Airport told 13News Now it wasn't clear what caused the crack and that an investigation was taking place.

Seventy-seven people were on the plane, a CRJ-700.

American Airlines was in the process of bussing the plane's passengers to Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport.
