Virginia State Police respond to 12 morning crashes in area

A flurry of early Tuesday morning crashes on the interstates around Hampton Roads has kept State Police pretty busy the entire morning.

We're told 12 accidents happened on the Peninsula and south side of Hampton Roads.

One accident where a tractor-trailer caught fire and crashed, closed all lanes of I-664 for some hours caused major backups in Hampton.

The following crashes listed are ones that took place on the Peninsula:

  • 5:08 a.m.: Crash on I-664 northbound to I-64 eastbound
  • 5:36 a.m.: Crash on I-64 westbound east of I-664
  • 6:58 a.m.: Crash on westbound lanes of LaSalle Avenue
  • 7:13 a.m.: Crash on I-64 west of the HRBT

The following crashes listed are ones that took place on the south side of Hampton Roads, three of which happened in the same area all within 30 minutes:

  • 6:49 a.m.: Crash on I-264 westbound at Brambleton Ave.
  • 6:55 a.m.: Crash on I-264 eastbound of Ballentine Blvd.
  • 6:59 a.m.: Crash on I-264 eastbound at Berkley Ave.
  • 7:04 a.m.: Crash on I-264 eastbound at Ballentine Blvd.
  • 7:21 a.m.: Crash on I-264 westbound at Ballentine Blvd.
  • 7:27 a.m.: Crash on I-264 westbound at Ballentine Blvd.
  • 7:33 a.m.: Crash on I-264 eastbound at Berkley Bridge.
