NORFOLK, Va. — Angelo Vargas joined the 13News Now team in January 2020 as a multi-skilled journalist.
Angelo is no stranger to Virginia. He went to high school just two hours north of Hampton Roads, in Fredericksburg. And he's got family in the state!
Before he started reporting in the commonwealth, he was covering news along the United States/Mexico border for four years. He was able to travel along the south Texas border from Brownsville to El Paso to focus on how people were living in the gaps of the border fence as well as other immigration stories. He also covered many topics impacting the community including crime, mental health, and natural disasters across Texas.
Angelo earned a Texas Associated Press Broadcasters Association Award for Spot News while covering Hurricane Harvey.
Angelo graduated from the University of Arizona and was able to land his first television news job as a video editor while going to school.
His first start as a reporter was in Grand Junction, Colorado. He provided the community early morning reports under the hot sun and in the snow! He was ultimately promoted to morning anchor.
If you don’t see Angelo on your TV screen or phone you may see him at the beach, running on the trail with his dog, Milo, and experiencing some great-tasting local Hampton Roads restaurants with his wife.
