Melissa Terrazas joined the 13News Now family in November 2021.
Melissa grew up as the oldest of three children in Central Texas. After graduating from Belton High School in 2014, Melissa attended The University of Texas at San Antonio for a year before attending The University of Texas at Austin.
It was then that she discovered her love for both the sciences and journalism. After graduating with her degree in Geography and Communications in 2018, Melissa decided to continue her educational career.
In the Summer of 2018, she was accepted into the Atmospheric Sciences program at Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi. Thrilled at being given the chance to pursue a degree tailored to Meteorology, Melissa packed up her things and moved on down to the Texas coast.
After just a few short months, Melissa began to serve as an intern for KRIS 6 News. There, she was able to apply everything that she had learned in the classroom to the real world. Having learned a lot from this experience, she knew that she was right where she was supposed to be.
Upon graduating with her degree in Atmospheric Science in December of 2020, she soon began her career as an on-air Meteorologist for KAMR Local 4 News in Amarillo, Texas. She'll tell you that forecasting in the Texas Panhandle truly kept her on her toes. Her most memorable experience dates back to a storm-chasing event n March of 2021 when she found herself within 150 yards of an EF-2 tornado in Happy, Texas.
Having seen her fair share of wintry weather, severe thunderstorms, and even tornadoes, Melissa is ready for what Hampton Roads has in store!
