Steampunk exhibit returns to Hampton History Museum

'Steampunk: Visions of Futures Past' is coming back to the Hampton History Museum, coinciding with the 19th annual Blackbeard Pirate Festival.

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Victorian Era and the Wild West meet futurism in an exhibit that is coming back to the Hampton History Museum.

"Steampunk: Visions of Futures Past" allows visitors to see the work of artists and craftspeople whose dress, weaponry, and gadgets represent embody Steampunk.

The science fiction sub-genre focuses on a romanticized notion of futurism. It typically is set during the Victorian Age (1851-1901) or maintains a similar fashion and aesthetic of the era in an alternate time, place, or even world.

Steampunk: Visions of Futures Past takes place on Blackbeard Festival Weekend, with a free "Exposition of Marvels" on Saturday, June 2 and Sunday, June 3.

There will also be an evening celebration that Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m., with tickets costing $10.
