Missy Elliott receives honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music

Portsmouth-native Missy Elliott is the first hip-hop artist to receive an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music.

Congratulations to Portsmouth-native Missy Elliott who received an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music on Saturday.

The rapper — a five-time Grammy winner — received the honor alongside  Justin Timberlake and Alex Lacamoire.

Elliott is the first hip-hop artist to receive an honorary doctorate from the college.

She will also be the first female rapper to be inducted into Songwriter's Hall of Fame on June 13 in New York City.
