WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WVEC) — The City of Williamsburg is unique in and of itself, but it is also home to many unique places, some of which are one-of-a-kind, including The Hound’s Tale Corner Barkery.
Just a stone’s throw away from the Colonial area, this is a one-stop-shop for anything you could ever need to spoil your furry one, including something you may not have heard of before...
“We only opened this June 21st of this past year, and we call it Virginia’s first and only canine speakeasy," said co-owner Don Pratt.
Speakeasy? You better believe it! Think about it: we do everything with our dogs and pets, why not enjoy happy hour with them as well?
The colossal milkshakes may be what brings all the foot traffic, but the labs come a-leaping for the beer and wine! A full bar offering a wide array of crafted human drinks thoughtfully paired with offerings for your pet, like Chardognay, Purrlot, and Bowser Beer.
It solves the age-old dilemma we’ve all dealt with, where you come home from work and want to grab a drink with friends and then you get the stare from your four-legged friend.
Geri Pratt, co-owner explained, “'Gosh, I want to go out but look at him looking at me...' this gives us a chance to allow the people to go home, get your dog, come out and socialize, drink, and the dog can have a good time too.”
Being a dog dad to three, we are always buying treats and toys for them and let me tell you I have never seen such an assortment of clever, customized gifts all in one place before.
But aside from the drinks, treats and toys, what’s the best part of the Corner Barkery?
"Just the feel when you get in," said Geri. "It just makes you happy, our staff is great, the food is phenomenal. Our bar manager, Diane, has done all these creative drinks. We have dog names for things, we try not to get too carried away but it’s hard because it’s fun!"
One thing the owners never take for granted is the role they play in their community. Through purchases of some treats and gifts, they help out local pet charities.
“They’ve really shown us the love they have for their animals, the roles that their dogs and cats and their pets play in their lives," said Don.
