Woman cited for leaving dog in hot car in Virginia Beach

The woman from Missouri was charged with a misdemeanor after she left her dog in the car in a Walmart parking lot.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A woman charged with a misdemeanor for leaving her dog in a hot car while parked at a Wal-Mart. 

Animal Control officers said it happened in the parking lot at 546 First Colonial Road around 2 pm May 5th. 

Authorities were alerted by a concerned citizen. When officers arrived, they took the dog out of the car because temperature readings inside the car were at “concerning levels.” Our 13News Now Meteorologists recorded temperatures around 80 degrees. 

The 52-year-old woman from Missouri was charged with providing inadequate care, class 4 misdemeanor. She was “provided education” about hot car dangers and her dog was returned.
