Virginia Tourism launches statewide local restaurant 'takeout week'

The website has a list of participating local restaurants, and is selling shirts to support food service workers affected by coronavirus.

NORFOLK, Va. — Virginia Tourism has dubbed this week "Virginia is for Restaurant Lovers Takeout Week," and is encouraging people to support local restaurants affected by coronavirus.

Their website sports a list of participating restaurants by locality, and the organization is selling shirts to raise money for food service worker relief programs across the state.

Local restaurant associations are applauding the assistance at the state level.

“...the advertising dollars gets it out to other media that hasn’t been utilized or would not be affordable to an individual city,” said Stacey Shiflet, Executive Director of the Virginia Beach Restaurant Association. "Which is great."

They're asking participants to share their support on social media with the tag "#VirginiaEatsLocal."
