Norfolk, Va. (WVEC) -- What are you thankful for?

That's the question 13News Now asked people in Downtown Norfolk as they got ready for Thanksgiving. Many people are giving thanks for things that matter most in their lives.

Brandon Farrington said he’s thankful for Family, friends, and fitness.

"Just take a moment, if you are working, to be thankful for your job. If you have kids, be thankful for them. If you have a wife or husband be thankful for them. Just be thankful for the simple things like waking up every morning,” said Farrington.

Shaff Howse told 13News Now he’s thankful that his mother beat breast cancer. Because of her fight against cancer, he said he celebrates every day.

“I’m thankful for each and every day that I’m blessed with. Every day is a holiday as far as I’m concerned. I’m wearing my mom’s breast cancer awareness hat, a survivor,” said Howse.

13News Now asked both young and old what they were thankful for and most said family, friends and good health. Anthony Olds Jr. shared that same sentiment.

“I’m thankful for my life, my strength and I’m thankful for my family,” said Olds.

Olds also said it’s important to be thankful for things in your life to remain humble.

“If you are not thankful, a lot of the things you do can be in vain. And if things that you do are in vain you really can’t have a lot of success from it. You show that 'Hey, I may not have it all together, but I'm thankful that I have people in line that can help me get it together,'” said Olds.
