CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- Thanksgiving is right around the corner. While you fill your refrigerator preparing for family and friends, some kids in Chesapeake are making sure the less fortunate have food too.

Kindergarten kids at the Primrose School went aisle-to-aisle, picking out items for the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore. The foodbank serves 171,000 people that are struggling with hunger.

Tonya Gill, co-owner of the Primrose School, said it's important to teach kids early to give back.

"They become caring adults and in their adult life, they also continue to give back," she said.

Not only are they selecting items, but they also raised the money to pay for them by doing chores. They earned a little more than $450.

"We want to feel happy that they get food," said one kindergartner.
