After serving our country, and the Gloucester County Sheriff's Office, K-9 Rexi is retiring.

GLOUCESTER COUNTY, Va. (WVEC) — After serving our country, and the Gloucester County Sheriff's Office, K-9 Rexi is retiring.

Rexi was donated to the Gloucester County Sheriff's Office by K9s4Cops after he served with the armed forces for 3 years in theater at a forward operating base in Afghanistan. He has served the Gloucester County community for 3.5 years and has made a huge impact.

The Sheriff's Office announced Rexi's retirement on its Facebook page. According to the Sheriff's Office, Rexi has conducted over 1,970 deployments that included narcotic busts, suspect tracking, and evidence searches. Rexi has tracked over 23 miles, and he has apprehended 5 wanted individuals and seized over $21,000 in illegal narcotics.

During his career in Gloucester, Rexi's efforts lead to the arrest of 85 individuals.

The Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office is in the process of finding a replacement for Rexi. The new K9 will have big paws to fill. Until a new patrol K9 is located, K9 Duke will continue to serve the citizens of Gloucester.

Rexi will enjoy retirement with Master Deputy Lutz and family, eating Ice Cream and lounging around the house.

The sheriff's office would like to give the public an opportunity to visit Rexi. He will be at the Gloucester Tractor Supply on December 15th from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Happy retirement, K9 Officer Rexi!
