Vigils begin after mass shooting at Virginia Beach Municipal Center

A vigil was held in the aftermath of the deadly shooting in Virginia Beach.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — In the wake of Friday's mass shooting at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center, several vigils are being planned for the community to gather and mourn.

SUNDAY VIGIL EVENTS:

  • 5:00 PM Kings Grant Baptist Church, located at 873 Little Neck Rd.
  • 8:30 AM Forefront Church, located at 2520 Holland Rd.
  • 10:00 AM Forefront Church, located at 2520 Holland Rd.
  • 11:30 AM Forefront Church, located at 2520 Holland Rd.
  • 4:00 PM Piney Grove Baptist Church, located at 2804 Holland Rd.

MONDAY VIGIL EVENTS:

  • 12 NOON Courthouse Community UMC, located at 2708 Princess Anne Rd.
  • 5:00 PM Coastal Coffee (Compassion Cards), located at 8418 Tidewater Dr. (Norfolk)
  • 7:00 PM Courthouse Community UMC, located at 2708 Princess Anne Rd.

WEDNESDAY VIGIL EVENTS:

  • 6:00 PM Old Dominion University, inside the lobby of Webb University Center, located at 1526 W. 49th St. (Norfolk)
  • 7:00 p.m. Vigil for Change, 2401 Courthouse Drive (Building 1), steps of City Hall

SATURDAY, JUNE 8 VIGIL EVENTS:

  • 10:00 AM Memorial Walk for Virginia Beach Victims, Families & Community at Mount Trashmore Park, 310 Edwin Dr.

There is also a call out for certified therapy dogs to assist from Zoom Room Virginia Beach:

Courthouse Community United Methodist Church at 2708 Princess Anne Road will host a two Community Prayer Services at noon and 7 p.m. on Monday, June 3. 

The City of Virginia Beach has created a website to keep the public updated with the latest information.
