SHOREWOOD, Minn. - It was like a scene out of Wild Kingdom, only the clash between two white-tailed bucks unfolded in a residential area of Shorewood Sunday morning.

Fortunately, so did the rescue that saved one of the deer's lives.

South Lake Minnetonka Police were dispatched right around 8:30 a.m. on a call of two deer that were stuck together with tangled antlers. When officers Ricky Syhre and John Warehan got there it was immediately clear that one of the bucks had lost the fight and was dead, but still attached to the other deer.

When the two officers attempted to approach the surviving deer it became wild, thrashing and bucking like a bronco, with the dead deer being flipped about. It was obviously a dangerous situation.

Eventually officer Warehan got a clean shot at the frantic buck and deployed his taser from approximately 10 feet. The animal was temporarily disabled and fell to the ground. At that point the officers ran in and held the deer down, while two residents with sawzalls ran in and cut off portions of his antlers to free the two deer. When the buck came to he got to his feet and loped away, likely not realizing he was fortunate to get another chance at life.
